Socialism, Liberal, Media…Keywords

Keywords are the trigger points for the last days of this election cycle. McCain continues to use his lipstick wearing gopher, Gov. Palin, to incite the conservative base by use of these words. But where are those same Conservatives when it comes time to reflect on their flag bearer, President Bush and his policies.

I hear conservatives recite the causes of the current economic problems by referencing talking points of right wing talk shows that blame President Clinton, Fannie/Freddie and congress. Will they defend President Bush when it comes to these speeches as posted on The Big Picture.

I suspect they won’t due to the fact that it was and is conservative ideology that brought about this crisis. Though democrats did buy into the deregulation of industries and capitalism in general, deregulation was and is a focal point of conservative/Republican platform that failed America.

It was not socialism that brought about this economic quagmire by over regulating markets. It was not Liberal programs that “redistributed wealth” that seized up credit markets. It wasn’t the biased media that brought about 80/20 loans, no documentation loans or interest only loans. It was conservative ideology.

Yet in the final days of these campaigns, those words will be used to deflect wrong headed policies and falsely label Democrats and Sen. Obama. Conservatives should own up to their mistakes along with obliging Liberals who lacked a spinal column… Continue reading

Political Consulting

Political consulting is the business which has grown up around advising and assisting political campaigns, primarily in the United States. As democracy has spread around the world, American political consultants have often developed an international base of clients. Though its most important role is probably in the production of mass media (largely television), political consultants advise campaigns on virtually all of their activities, from research to field strategy. The practice of consulting has several early precedents. President William McKinley’s closest political advisor Mark Hanna is sometimes described as the first political consultant. In California in the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s, Whitaker and Baxter established and grew the first true consulting firm, Campaigns, Inc. However, political consultingblossomed with the increasing use of television advertising for campaign communications in the 1960s. It was in that period that Joe Napolitan claims to have become the first person to describe himself as a political consultant (Perlmutter, ed. Manship Guide to Political Communication, pg19).In the subsequent years, political consulting has grown in importance and influence and extended its reach to campaigns at all levels of government in the United States, and beyond. Many consultants work not only for campaigns, but also for other political organizations, including parties and political action committees, sometimes through independent expenditures; some also do public relations and research work for corporations and governments. In fact, today corporations seeking approval from municipal boards have turned to land use political consultants to help earn need entitlements… Continue reading

Health Care Bill Gains Bipartisan Support From Career Gals of Maine Party

Thanks to fierce lobbying by Congressional Democrats, the Senate Finance Committee’s version of the health care bill just passed on Tuesday with bipartisan support from (1) liberal senators, represented by Olympia Snowe from Maine, and (2) ultraliberal senators, represented by all 13 Democrats on the committee. On Wednesday morning, GOP senator Susan Collins also announced that she was open to health care reform along the lines of the committee’s proposal.Impressive as this Republican sweep is, you may recall how Obama’s $787 billion stimulus package received even broader bipartisan support last spring, inasmuch as it attracted the votes of no fewer than three Republican senators, including Snowe, Collins, and Arlen Specter, which means that the failure of the stimulus bill to do what it was supposed to lies equally with Democrats and Republicans.  Of course, Specter became a Democrat five minutes later, but right up until that moment he was firmly on the other side of the aisle.Snowe, like Collins, Specter, John McCain, and other liberal Senators, has a reputation for magnanimously cooperating with the opposition party (the ultraliberals) in passing legislation that might otherwise be seen as abridging our liberty and taking over our lives.  Legislators such as Snowe (L-ME) serve the important function of watering down such legislation to make its impact marginally less onerous on average Americans. For example, Snowe opposes a “public option” in the health care reform bill-that is, unless private insurance companies don’t live up to arbitrary standards issued… Continue reading

Now is the Time for Political Cartoons

Although there are almost political cartoons in the newspapers, election years will always show an increase in political cartoons. Whether it’s just ordinary satire or construed to make fun of the current political leaders is difficult to assess, but there is no doubt that you will often see a political cartoon in the newspaper several times a week in the months preceding a new presidential election. Doonesbury has always been somewhat of a political cartoon, but election years will show a variety of other political cartoons as well. How popular political cartoons really are depends where you live and the social standing of the populace. Most people don’t find political cartoons funny, so they tend to avoid them. Of course, if you live in an area where politics is wide spread, more people will read the political cartoons and actually derive pleasure from reading them. Political cartoons usually appeal to those people who have a difficult time enjoying anything that is funny. It appears those who have a more serious nature tend to be more drawn to political cartoons—at least that is how it appears to be on the surface. This may not be true of everyone, but it does appear to be a general rule of thumb. Also, those who do not involve themselves too much in politics seem to enjoy the satire of political cartoons more, especially if the political cartoon for that day is directed toward a political figure of… Continue reading

DUI Defense Lawyer – Defend Yourself Today

Roads and highways are not exactly always driver friendly especially when one operates a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or any other intoxicating elements. When you find yourself in this kind of predicament, the only way you can maneuver around it is through the help of a competent DUI defense lawyer. Although not all DUIs are considered felony, you will do well to have legal representation just in case things do not go as well as you would hope them to be. One of the most important things you need to look for in a lawyer is the experience he has when it comes to DUI offenses and the cases which he has won in court. If you have never been in a position in which you need a DUI defense lawyer, you might consider picking up the yellow pages for reference, or better yet, look for one online. These days, it is very easy to gain access to the services of good lawyers through a push of a button. Of course, you will need to check out the reputation of the law firm you will choose from which the defense counsel who will represent you works for. Since there are different laws on drunk driving depending on which State you are in, you have to hire an attorney who is practicing in the same State where the supposed offense was committed. You can secure a lesser type of punishment if you… Continue reading
