Money Saving Auto Insurance Tips

Everyone likes to save money and your automobile insurance is a great place to find savings. You’re most likely required by state law to carry auto insurance on any car you own and auto insurance costs can vary widely. Here are eight tips to help you start saving money with your automobile insurance.1. Compare auto insurance quotes – this advice might sound simple, but it is the best way to find the best possible auto insurance rate. Get at least auto insurance quotes to compare and make certain you are comparing similar policies.2. One way to buy less expensive auto insurance is to ask for a high deductible. You will be out a much larger out-of-pocket expense in the event your auto insurance policy is used to cover a claim, but your premium will be substantially lower. If you take your deductible up to $1000, you can expect savings of 40 percent, or more.3. If your car is older consider reducing the coverage of your automobile insurance. Two types of coverage to think about are collision and comprehensive auto insurance. A good rule of thumb is to drop unnecessary coverage for any car worth less than 10 times the cost of coverage. In the event you make a claim for an older car, the amount you receive might be less than your auto insurance premiums.4. Your car has a major impact on the cost of your auto insurance. For example, a sports car… Continue reading

Pulled over for DUI in Los Angeles? Don’t give the officer and explanation!

Police officers hear numerous excuses from those they arrest for DUI. Often citizens feel the need to offer the officer an explanation for why they have been pulled over. This is not your job. You have probably heard the Miranda expression that “anything you say can be used against you in a court of law.” This is true and you bet that officer is going to testify to what you allegedly said. Do you really want your explanation of, “I just had 3 or 4 beers” or your post FST statement of, “I can’t even do that test sober” to be used against you? Anything you tell law enforcement is ammunition to fine you, take your license, make you attend alcohol treatment classes and lock you up. Furthermore, the officer needs to have probable cause to pull you over in the first place. If there was no probable cause to stop your car then your attorney should run a 1538.5 suppression motion to get the evidence thrown out and your case dismissed. Remember, the only reason law enforcement wants to talk to a private citizen is because they believe that you are either one of three categories: (1) a victim, (2) a suspect or (3) a witness. Odds are when they pull your car over that you are a suspect. Politely hand over your license, registration and insurance information. Don’t give them an explanation!Los Angeles/Southern California criminal defense attorney. Former Deputy District… Continue reading

Three Challenges Defining Social-political Sustainability

Copyright (c) 2008 Jackson KernThe subtle difference between pure social development and social-political sustainability is very central to the pursuit of sustainable development. Just as economic development accomplishes little if the achievements heralded are unsustainable, so too must social enrichment go hand in hand with a concerted effort to ensure its persistent viability.Open, contested political arenas offer the only means to this endarenas that are contested by you. These three phenomena endanger the sustainability of our social-political processes; they beg our devoted attention.1. The most insidious danger of all is that of prevalent political apathy. If the population at large cannot be convinced that its fate is sufficiently at stake to engage itself actively, then all hope surely is lost. The causes of apathy are many; clearly the simplest is inner-focused individuals who are more concerned with personal than societal enrichment, or who believe that the benefits derived from social engagement will not be commensurate with the time and resources invested. This phenomenon can be likened to game theory and political science notions of the “tragedy of the commons”. A related cause of political apathy is blind faith in social and political institutions. But we must remember Sartre’s espousal of the one who “is loyal to a political and social ensemble, and who never ceases to contest it”. There is no contradiction in believing that a nation’s social and political processes are the best ever conceived by mankind, and still rising every… Continue reading
